fakültesi okumam sebebiyle büyük bir ilgiyle derhal alıp okumaya başladım.
Kitabın sayfalarını çevirdikçe şaşkınlık içerisine girmeye başladım.

AŞI VE OTİZM İLİŞKİSİZLİĞİ

Aşının otizm
ile ilişkili olduğunu dillendirerek vatandaşı “aşı yaparken iki kere düşünün”
diye ürkütmeniz ilginç. Keşke aşı ve otizm konusunda kitabınızda kaynak
gösterdiğiniz Wakefield’in akıbetini de araştırsaydınız.

Gastroenterolog Andrew Wakefield ve arkadaşları
Lancet’te kızamık-kızamıkçık-kabakulak (KKK) aşısı yapıldıktan 1 ay sonra 8
çocukta otizm belirtilerinin başladığını bildiriyorlar.

Wakefield, KKK aşısının bağırsak enflamasyonuna
neden olduğunu, bunun sonucunda peptitlerin önce kan dolaşımına, ardından da
beyne geçmesiyle otizmin geliştiğini ileri sürüyor.

Çeşitli ülkelerde farklı araştırmacılarca yapılan
20 epidemiyolojik çalışmada, KKK aşıları ve aşılarda kullanılan thimerosal ile
otizm arasında ilişkiyi destekleyen hiçbir veri elde edilemiyor; ileri sürülen
biyolojik mekanizmanın bilimsel bir temelinin olmadığı ortaya konuyor.

Sonraki yıllarda, Wakefield’in aşı üreticelerine
dava açan avukatlarla para ilişkisi içinde olduğu, bazı araştırmalarının bu
davalarda yer alan avukatlar tarafından finanse edildiği anlaşılıyor.

İngiltere’de Ocak 2010’da Genel Tıp Konseyi (GTK)
Wakefield’i sahtecilik, araştırma tıbbının temel ilkelerini tekrarlayarak ihlal
etme gibi başlıklarda suçlu buluyor.Şubat 2010’da Lancet dergisi makaleyi geri
çekiyor.Mayıs 2010’da GTK Wakefield’in hekimlik yetkisini iptal ediyor.

Çok değil,
30 yıl önceyi düşündüğümüzde yakınlarımızın kaç aşıyla önlenebilir ölüm, kalıcı
engellilik ya da hastalıkla boğuştuğunu, kaçının sağlıklı ve uzun bir yaşam
sürmekten mahrum kaldığını hatırlamak güç değildir. Bu hastalıklardan ne
difteri kayboldu yeryüzünden ne kızamık, ne çocuk felci ne de boğmaca. Artık bu
hastalıkları çok az görmemizin nedeni 1980’li yıllardan itibaren sürdürdüğümüz
yüksek bağışıklama oranlarıdır. Dolayısıyla aşı reddi oranları arttıkça,
bu hastalıkların yeniden ve çok üzücü bir şekilde tüm halkımızın sağlığını
tehdit edeceği açıktır. Çocuklarımızın sağlıklı yaşam hakkının en temel bileşenlerinden
biri olan aşıların yerini alabilecek alternatif bir uygulama yoktur.

Sağlık
Bakanlığı verilerine göre;

19 yıldır
Türkiye’de çocuk felci, 2004’ten bu yana difteri vakası yok.

2001’de 30
bin olan kızamık vakası 2016’da sadece 9’a indi. Aşı karşıtlığı yüzünden
2019’da tekrar 2 bin 391 vaka bilirildi.

Çünkü
aşılanmayan kişi sadece kendine değil, bulaşıcılık açısından çevresindeki
kişiler için de risk oluşturur.

Aşı karşıtlığı toplum sağlığı sorunudur.

Toplumda aşı karşıtlığının artmasını bildiğiniz halde tarafınızı koruyucu hekimliğin direği olan aşılardan değil aşı yapmamaktan yana alarak halk sağlığı sorununa ortak oluyorsunuz. Evet, aşıları üreten ilaç endüstrisinin herkes farkında ve bundan şikayetçi. Ancak bu sorunun çözümü aşıyı reddetmek olamaz. Yerli aşı üretimiyle bu sorun çözülmelidir.

ÇÖZÜM YERLİ AŞI ÜRETİMİ

İlaç
endüstrisi ile o ilaçları kullanmayarak mı mücadele edilir? Siz ve sizinle aynı
düşünen bir grup hastanın ilaçlarınızı bırakarak bu düzene tavır(!) aldığını
düşünelim. İlerleyen zamanda hastalığınızın oluşturduğu komplikasyonlar neyle
tedavi edilecek? Yine ilaçla. Yani koskoca ilaç endüstrisine karşı kişisel bir
tavırla mücadele edilemez. Devlet düzeyinde mücadele edilir.

Çiçek
aşısını 19. Yüzyılda Avrupalılara öğreten Kurtuluş Savaşı’nın zor dönemlerinde
aşı üreten Türkiye’de, 12 Mart 1971 askeri darbesiyle tifüs aşısı üretimine ve
12 Eylül 1980 askeri darbesiyle çiçek aşısı üretimine son verildi. AB “uyum”
sürecinin ilk adımı Gümrük Birliği’ne girerek 1996’da kuduz aşısı, 1997’de BCG
aşısı ve 1998’de toptan aşı üretimine son verildi. Aşılar ülkemizde sadece
ithalat yoluyla temin edilmeye başlandı.

İlaç
endüstrisiyle ilaca ve aşıya karşı çıkarak değil, kendi aşımızı ve ilacımızı
üreterek karşı çıkabiliriz.

Hastalar popülizmin kurbanı oluyor

“Modern
Tıp”a aykırı söylemlerde bulunan doktorların ekranlara çıkarılmadığını
söylüyorsunuz. İnsaf!

Bugün en çok ekranlara çıkan doktor Canan Karatay değil mi?

Siz de kanal
kanal gezip modern tıp ve aşı karşıtlığınızı anlatmadınız mı?

Bugün
basında ve medyada en çok yer alan doktorlar sizin kitabınızda referans
gösterdiğiniz kişilerdir.

Aksine
bilimsel tezleri savunan kişiler ekranlardan esirgeniyor, hastalar popüler
söylemlerin kurbanı oluyor.

Sizin ilaç
endüstrisine kafa tutan(!) ve halkın yanında dediğiniz Canan Karatay, Ahmet
Rasit Küçükusta gibi kişilerin özel muayenehane randevusu 700 TL’den başlıyor
ve 6 aydan önce sıra gelmiyor. Acaba bu popülerlikte ekranların etkisi var
mıdır?

Sağlığın
ekonomi-politiğini incelerken bu durumu da hesaba kattınız mı?

Bir örnek vereyim:

Çocuk acil
polikliniğinde nöbetçi olduğum bir gün içeri bebeğiyle bir anne girdi. Bebeğin
yüzü gözü şişmiş ve kızarıktı, zor nefes alıyordu. Anne ağlıyordu. Ne olduğunu
sorduğumuzda “çörekotu yağı içirdim, televizyonda söylediler.” dedi. Çocuğun
tanısı anafilaksiydi. Anafilaksi ciddi
bir alerjik reaksiyondur. Allerjene maruz kalmanın ilk dakikaları içerisinde
vücudun bütünü etkilenir. Baş etkeni de içeriği bilinmeden alınan ölçüsüz
gıdalardır.

O çocuk
yaşıyor, ancak her gün yüzlerce çocuk denetimsiz kullanılan bitkisel ürünlere
bağlı allerji ve anafilaksi sebebiyle acillerimize geliyor.

Televizyonda
sürekli halka alternatif tıp adı altında önerilen ve internet dahil her ortamda
satışı yapılan bu ürünlerin denetimi var mı? Yok.

İlaç ve
aşıların ekonomi-politiğinden bahsedelim demişsiniz. Haklısınız, bahsedelim.

Alternatif tıp şarlatanlarının 2018 küresel pazarı yaklaşık 60 milyar dolar, 2026’da 210 milyar dolar olması bekleniyor. Aşı karşıtlığının da bir ekonomi-politiği var Soner Bey. Bugün bitkisel tedavi(!) ürünleri satan İbrahim Saraçoğlu Cumhurbaşkanı Başdanışmanlığı koltuğunda oturmaktadır.

Kitabınızda
Canan Karatay’ı cansiperane savunuyorsunuz. Tercihinizdir. Ancak şu cümlenize
anlam veremiyorum:

Gebelere
yaptığımız “şeker yükleme testi” hakkında demişsiniz ki “75-100 gram glikoz
vererek yapılan ölçümde anne karnındaki 300 gram bebek bundan nasıl
etkileniyor?”

Bu cümleyi
kurmak konuya yabancı olduğunuzu açıkça gösteriyor.

Soner Bey,
gebe bir kadın bir dilim pasta ya da tatlı yediği takdirde bile neredeyse şeker
yükleme testindeki ile aynı miktarda şeker vücuduna girmektedir. Bu şekerin
kandaki ve bebeğe geçen miktarını belirleyen şey insülin hormonudur. Karşı
çıktığınız test anne adayı ve bebek için hayati önem taşımaktadır. Gebeliğince
diyabeti kontrol altında olmayan annelerin bebekleri ciddi zararlar görüyor. Bu
zararları konuşmak ise başka bir yazı konusudur.

Karatay’ın
açıklamasından sonra şeker yükleme testi yaptırmak istemeyen bir çok gebe
kadının bebeği ciddi risk altında kalmıştır. Üstelik Karatay’ın böyle bir
açıklaması varsa, ispatlayıp neden bilim camiasına sunmuyor?

Ayrıca çok
merak ettiğim bir husus var. Siz ve Canan Karatay, neden bu konularda uzman
olan kişilerle aynı programa katılmıyorsunuz?

Türk Diyabet
Vakfı Başkanı Prof. Dr. Temel Yılmaz, Canan Karatay’ı söylediklerini tartışmak
için açıktan davet etti. Kendisi neden sağlık camiasına mensup hiç kimseyle bu
konuları tartışmadı?[1]

Bazı yanlışlar tüm doğruları götürür

Kitabınızda
“bilinçli hasta” kavramını kullanmışsınız çok doğru. Eskiden baba modeli
doktorluk esastı. Doktor tek otoriteydi, hasta her dediğini yapmak zorundaydı
ve doktorun hastaya bilgi verme zorunluluğu yoktu. Oysa şimdi arkadaş modeli
hekimliğe geçiliyor. Yani doktor hastayı bilgilendiriyor ve tedaviyi işbirliği
halinde yapıyorlar.

Türkiye’de
sağlık okuryazarlığı artırılmalı. Basın ve medyada zorunlu klipler
döndürülmeli. Hastane bekleme salonlarında sıradan TV kanalları değil, bu
klipler dönmeli. Memesinde kitle saptayan hasta göğüs hastalıklarına gelmemeli,
genel cerrahiye gideceğini bilmeli.

Tıp eğitimi
yenilenmeli, çok haklısınız. Batı’ya endeksli bir eğitim modeli ile Türk
halkına uyumlu bir sağlık hizmeti vermek ve Türk tıbbını dünyadaki gerçek
konumuna ulaştırmak oldukça zor.

Tıp
öğretiminin “hastalık yok,
hasta var” sözlerinde
anlam kazanan temel ilkesi uygulamada karşılığını bulmuyor. Sağlık sistemi
hakkındaki eleştirilerde haklısınız; fazlası var, eksiği yok.

Soner Bey, “Kara Kutu”da Modern Tıp anlayışının yanlışlarından yola çıkarak Modern Tıp’ı bütünüyle zan altında bırakma hatasına düşmüşsünüz. Hele ki aşılar hakkındaki söyledikleriniz haklı olduğunuz birçok konunun önüne geçiyor.

SONUÇ

Yukarıda
bahsettiğim yanlışları öne sürerek bireysel tavırlarla bu şartlara karşı çıkmak
daha büyük bir yanlıştır. İlaç ve aşı, tekelleşme ve kapitalizme bağlı olarak
yanlış güçlerin elinde de olabilir, ancak insanlığın en büyük mucizeleridir.
Yerli ve milli üretim atağını ilaç ve aşı alanında geliştirmek halk sağlığımız
ve ekonomimiz için yapılacak en doğru iş olacaktır.

Kabul ediyoruz, günümüzde, tıp hizmetinin son derece kâr odaklı olması, doktor hasta ilişkisinin gitgide mekanikleşmesi ve ilaç firmalarının etik olmayan uygulamaları nedeniyle insanların modern tıbba olan güvenleri azalmış durumda. Pek çok doktor muayenesi son derece kısa sürüyor ve hastalar sıklıkla geçiştirildikleri hissine kapılıyorlar. Muayene sırasında yüzlerine bile bakamayan ve bir sonraki hastaya yetişme kaygısı ile hastanın kendini ifade etmesine imkan veremeden reçete yazıp hastanın eline tutuşturan doktorlar nedeniyle hastalar kendilerini uzun uzadıya dinleyecek alternatif tıpçıları tercih ediyorlar. Benzer şekilde ciddi yan etkileri olan bilinen ilaçların bu etkilerinin tam olarak açıklanmadan hastalara verilmesi nedeniyle hastalarda hekimlerinin verdiği ilaçlara genel bir güvensizlik oluşmuş durumda.

Kitabınızda
anti-kapitalizm ile bilim düşmanlığı arasındaki farkı silikleştiriyorsunuz.
İlaç endüstrisindeki parasal akıştan namuslu
her biliminsanı ve duyarlı hekim eleştirmelidir. Ama bunu aşılar konusunda kuşku
yaratmaya kadar götürürerek anti-kapitalizm değil, üzülerek söylemek zorundayım
bilim ve toplum düşmanlığı yapmış olursunuz.

Emin olun,
ilaç endüstrisini en çok sağlık camiasında eleştiriliyor. Ancak yerine önerilen
bir sistem olmayınca yaptığınız eleştiriler yine ilaç endüstrisini beslemekten
öte gitmiyor.

Trump claimed on Monday that people in Greenland have responded warmly to the US’s recent interest in the territory. “They’re calling us. We’re not calling them. And we were invited over there,” he said.

“We’re dealing with a lot of people from Greenland that would like to see something happen with respect to them being properly protected and properly taken care of,” Trump told reporters following a meeting with his Cabinet.

“I think Greenland is going to be something that maybe is in our future,” Trump added.

The president said he believes Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be traveling to Greenland too.

Trump’s idea to annex Greenland has thrown an international spotlight on the territory, which holds vast stores of rare earth minerals critical for high-tech industries, and has raised questions about the island’s future security as the US, Russia and China vie for influence in the Arctic. Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in the US taking the island by force or economic coercion, even as Denmark and Greenland have firmly rejected the idea.

Last year, it recorded the first annual decline in sales in its history as a public company, posting a drop of 1%.

The company is facing intensifying competition in China, the world’s largest auto market. On Tuesday, BYD, a Chinese maker of electric and hybrid cars, reported $107 billion in annual sales for 2024, beating the near-$98 billion notched by Tesla.

And last week, BYD unveiled an ultra-fast charging system, which it said was capable of adding 250 miles (402 km) of range in just five minutes, easily outdoing Tesla’s charging technology. Tesla’s Superchargers take 15 minutes to charge an EV, providing a range of 200 miles.

Tesla has also suffered slumping sales in Europe. In February, the carmaker sold around 40% fewer vehicles on the continent compared with the same month in 2024, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

Next, the team wants to design a new experiment to see what it can detect. If the team can identify similar long-chain molecules, it would mark another step forward that might help researchers determine their origins, Freissinet said.

“That’s the most precious sample we have on board … waiting for us to run the perfect experiment on it,” she said. “It holds secrets, and we need to decipher the secrets.”

Briony Horgan, coinvestigator on the Perseverance rover mission and professor of planetary science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, called the detection “a big win for the whole team.” Horgan was not involved the study.
“This detection really confirms our hopes that sediments laid down in ancient watery environments on Mars could preserve a treasure trove of organic molecules that can tell us about everything from prebiotic processes and pathways for the origin of life, to potential biosignatures from ancient organisms,” Horgan said.

Dr. Ben K.D. Pearce, assistant professor in Purdue’s department of Earth, atmospheric, and planetary sciences and leader of the Laboratory for Origins and Astrobiology Research, called the findings “arguably the most exciting organic detection to date on Mars.” Pearce did not participate in the research.

In a quest to see whether amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, existed in the sample, the team instructed the rover to heat up the sample twice within SAM’s oven. When it measured the mass of the molecules released during heating, there weren’t any amino acids, but they found something entirely unexpected.

An intriguing detection
The team was surprised to detect small amounts of decane, undecane and dodecane, so it had to conduct a reverse experiment on Earth to determine whether these organic compounds were the remnants of the fatty acids undecanoic acid, dodecanoic acid and tridecanoic acid, respectively.

The scientists mixed undecanoic acid into a clay similar to what exists on Mars and heated it up in a way that mimicked conditions within SAM’s oven. The undecanoic acid released decane, just like what Curiosity detected.

Each fatty acid remnant detected by Curiosity was made with a long chain of 11 to 13 carbon atoms. Previous molecules detected on Mars were smaller, meaning their atomic weight was less than the molecules found in the new study, and simpler.
“It’s notable that non-biological processes typically make shorter fatty acids, with less than 12 carbons,” said study coauthor Dr. Amy Williams, associate professor of geology at the University of Florida and assistant director of the Astraeus Space Institute, in an email. “Larger and more complex molecules are likely what are required for an origin of life, if it ever occurred on Mars.”

Located on the west coast, Ilulissat is a pretty halibut- and prawn-fishing port on a dark rock bay where visitors can sit in pubs sipping craft beers chill-filtered by 100,000-year-old glacial ice.

It’s a place to be awed by the UNESCO World Heritage Icefjord where Manhattan skyscraper-sized icebergs disgorge from Greenland’s icecap to float like ghostly ships in the surrounding Disko Bay.

Small boats take visitors out to sail closely among the bay’s magnificent iceberg flotilla. But not too close.

“I was on my boat once and saw one of these icebergs split in two. The pieces fell backwards into the sea and created a giant wave,” said David Karlsen, skipper of the pleasure-boat, Katak. “…I didn’t hang around.”

Disko Bay’s other giants are whales. From June to September breaching humpback whales join the likes of fin and minke whales feasting on plankton. Whale-watching is excellent all around Greenland’s craggy coastline.

Whales are eaten here. Visitors shouldn’t be surprised to encounter the traditional Greenlandic delicacy of mattak — whale-skin and blubber that when tasted is akin to chewing on rubber. Inuit communities have quotas to not only hunt the likes of narwhals but also polar bears, musk-ox and caribou — which can also appear on menus.

“I’m looking at this violinist and I thought, ‘I know that face!’” she said.

At one point, other musicians in the orchestra pointed to him while mouthing, “It’s him!” to her, and it continued to nag at Winslet, prompting her to wonder, “Am I related to this person? Who is this person?”

Finally, at the end of the day, the “Reader” star went in to where the orchestra was to meet the mystery violinist, and she was delighted to realize he was one of the violinists who played on the ill-fated Titanic ocean liner as it sank in James Cameron’s classic 1997 film.
“It was that guy!” Winslet exclaimed this week, later adding, “it was just wonderful” to see him again.

“We had so many moments like that in the film, where people I’ve either worked with before, or really known for a long time, kind of grown up in the industry with, they just showed up for me, and it was incredible.”

“Lee” released in theaters in late September, and is available to rent or buy on AppleTV+ or Amazon Prime.

“Each item has its own story, making the visit even more interesting,” he says. “It’s also impressive to know that Sheikh Faisal started collecting these unique pieces when he was very young. Knowing this makes the museum even more special, as it reflects his lifelong passion for history and culture.”

It takes time and dedication to truly examine the many collections within the museum — especially since most of them are simply on display without explanation.

Eclectic it may be, but it’s hard to fault the determination of Sheikh Faisal, who has brought together items that tell the story of Qatar and the Middle East.

Sarah Bayley, from the UK, says she visited the museum recently with her family, including 16 and 19-year-old teenagers, and was won over by its sheer eccentricity.

The NASA Curiosity rover has detected the largest organic molecules found to date on Mars, opening a window into the red planet’s past. The newly detected compounds suggest complex organic chemistry may have occurred in the planet’s past — the kind necessary for the origin of life, according to new research.

The organic compounds, which include decane, undecane and dodecane, came to light after the rover analyzed a pulverized 3.7 billion-year-old rock sample using its onboard mini lab called SAM, short for Sample Analysis at Mars.

Scientists believe the long chains of molecules could be fragments of fatty acids, which are organic molecules that are chemical building blocks of life on Earth and help form cell membranes. But such compounds can also be formed without the presence of life, created when water interacts with minerals in hydrothermal vents.

The molecules cannot currently be confirmed as evidence of past life on the red planet, but they add to the growing list of compounds that robotic explorers have discovered on Mars in recent years. A study detailing the findings was published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The detection of the fragile molecules also encourages astrobiologists that if any biosignatures, or past signs of life, ever existed on Mars, they are likely still detectable despite the harsh solar radiation that has bombarded the planet for tens of millions of years.

“Ancient life, if it happened on Mars, it would have released some complex and fragile molecules,” said lead study author Dr. Caroline Freissinet, research scientist at the French National Centre for Scientific Research in the Laboratory for Atmospheres, Observations, and Space in Guyancourt, France. “And because now we know that Mars can preserve these complex and fragile molecules, it means that we could detect ancient life on Mars.”

The museum’s history starts in 1998, when Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani opened a building to the public on his farm some 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Qatari capital Doha.

A distant relative of Qatar’s ruling family, founder and chairman of Al Faisal Holdings (one of Qatar’s biggest conglomerates), and a billionaire whose business acumen had him recognized as one of the most influential Arab businessmen in the world, Sheikh Faisal had already amassed a substantial private collection of historically important regional artifacts, plus a few quirky pieces of interest, allowing visitors an intimate look into Qatari life and history.

In an interview with Qatari channel Alrayyan TV in 2018, Sheikh Faisal said that the museum started as a hobby.

“I used to collect items whenever I got the chance,” he said. “As my business grew, so did my collections, and soon I was able to collect more and more items until I decided to put them in the museum for the public to enjoy.”

His private cabinet of curiosities has since evolved into a 130-acre complex. Through the fort-like entrance gate lies an oryx reserve, an impressive riding school and stables, a duck pond and a mosque built with a quirky leaning minaret. There’s now even a five-star Marriott hotel, two cafes and the Zoufa restaurant serving modern Lebanese cuisine.

Of course, there’s also the super-sized museum, with a recently-opened car collection housing everything from vintage Rolls-Royces to wartime Jeeps and colorful Buicks. Outside you’ll find peacocks roaming the grounds, and signs warning drivers to be aware of horses and ostriches.

Visitors to the FBQ museum are free to explore the grounds and can even enter the stables to pat the horses.

Back at the turn of the 21st century, Qatar was a country with few cultural attractions to keep visitors and residents entertained. Yet the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum — known as the FBQ Museum — was a place that most people visited as an alternative to the then-still rather ramshackle National Museum of Qatar.

You had to make an appointment, and drive out into the desert, getting lost a few times along the way, but then you were welcomed to the lush Al Samriya Farm with a cup of tea and some cake. The highlight was being allowed into a space crammed full with shelves and vitrines holding all sorts of eclectic artifacts from swords to coins — with the odd car and carriage standing in the grounds.

It wasn’t necessarily the kind of museum you’d find elsewhere in the world, but it was definitely a sight that needed seeing.

Today, it has grown and now claims to be one of the world’s largest private museums. It holds over 30,000 items, including a fleet of traditional dhow sailboats, and countless carpets. There’s also an entire house that once stood in Damascus, Syria.

There are archaeological finds dating to the Jurassic age, ancient copies of the Quran, a section that details the importance of pearling within Qatar’s history, and jewelry dating to the 17th century.

There are also items from 2022’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar including replica trophies, balls used in the games, entry passes, football jerseys and even shelves full of slightly creepy dolls and children’s plush animals.

Some of the more disturbing exhibits include various items of Third Reich paraphernalia in the wartime room, and, strangely enough, several showcases of birds’ legs with marking rings on them. Basically, whatever you can think of, you have a very good chance of finding it here.

Rumor even has it that behind a locked door is a room filled with the late Princess Diana’s dresses and other memorabilia, accessible only to a select few visitors. Another door hides a room, no longer open to the public, filled with collectibles of the late Saddam Hussein.

In travel news this week: Bhutan’s spectacular new airport, the world’s first 3D-printed train station has been built in Japan, plus new designs for Airbus’ zero-emission aircraft and France’s next-generation high-speed trains.

Grand designs
European aerospace giant Airbus has revealed a new design for its upcoming fully electric, hydrogen-powered ZEROe aircraft. powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

The single-aisle plane now has four engines, rather than six, each powered by their own fuel cell stack.

The reworked design comes after the news that the ZEROe will be in our skies later than Airbus hoped.

The plan was to launch a zero-emission aircraft by 2035, but now the next-generation single-aisle aircraft is slated to enter service in the second half of the 2030s.

Over in Asia, the Himalayan country of Bhutan is building a gloriously Zen-like new airport befitting a nation with its very own happiness index.

Gelephu International is designed to serve a brand new “mindfulness city,” planned for southern Bhutan, near its border with India.

In rail travel, Japan has just built the world’s first 3D-printed train station, which took just two and a half hours to construct, according to The Japan Times. That’s even shorter than the whizzy six hours it was projected to take.

France’s high-speed TGV rail service has revealed its next generation of trains, which will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 320 kilometers an hour (nearly 200 mph).

The stylish interiors have been causing a stir online, as has the double-decker dining car.

Finally, work is underway in London on turning a mile-long series of secret World War II tunnels under a tube station into a major new tourist attraction. CNN took a look inside.
