Kara Kutu'nun hedefinde Atatürk'ün yol arkadaşları mı var?

Soner Yalçın, "KARA KUTU / Yüzleşme Vakti kitabındaki dayanaksız, gerçek dışı iddialarıyla ilgili somut eleştirilerimize tahammül edemiyor ve bizi kitabı okumadan eleştirmekle suçluyor. Şimdi kitaptan sayfa numaralarını da vererek eleştirilerimize devam edelim, belki bu şekilde kitabını okuduğumuza ikna olabilir, daha doğrusu okuduğumuzu bildiği halde inkâr etmekten vazgeçebilir.  

Soner Yalçın kitaptaki dayanaksız iddialarına karşı somut biçimde ortaya koyduğumuz “Kara Kutu Soner Yalçın Eleştirisi 1” ve konuk olduğu Teke Tek programının ardından Fatih Altaylı’ya yolladığımız, kendisi ve kamuoyu ile de paylaştığımız “Soner Yalçın’ın Dayanaksız İddiaları”başlıklarıyla yayınladığımız somut eleştirilerimize yanıt vermekten ısrarla kaçınıyor. Kendisinden yanıt beklemek hakkımız, aksi takdirde kamuoyunu yanılttığını kabul etmek zorunda kalacak zira.

Yalçın, Homeopatik (önleyici-koruyucu-tamamlayıcı?) tıbba karşı Rockefeller ve Carnegie gibi dünya sermaye imparatorlarının dayattığı hepimizi kuşatan “endüstriyel tıbbın” “Kara Kutu” sunu açtığını iddia ediyor değme komplo teorisyenlerine taş çıkartır cinsten.  Kitabın girişinde zaman tüneline giriliyor (s.25-35). “ Rockefeller’in Kozmik Odasındaki 805 numaralı kutu Türkiye ile ilgili. Türkleri ve projeleri anlatıyor. Bunlardan 805E kutusundaki Fellowships/Burslar belgelerine erişim yasak. Açık belgelerin izi sürülüyor. 805A Tıp (Tıp fakültelerinde veya tıbbi araştırma enstitülerinde yürütülen araştırmalara verilen burslar-yardımlar) 805C Hemşirelik, 805I Sıtma (Aşılar için verilen paralar) 805 J-L Halk Sağlığı Gösterileri ve Eğitimi.. 805R Beşeri Bilimler ve Sanat yardımları 805S Sosyal Bilimler bursları. Açık kutulara bakıldığında Rockefeller, Türkiye’de genellikle tıp-sağlık sektörüyle yakından ilgili. Belgeler Türkiye’de “Amerikan modeli endüstriyel tıbbi eğitim ve araştırma anlayışının yerleşmesine nasıl etki ettiğini anlatılıyor. Rockefeller Vakfı 1950’lerin ortalarından başlayarak Robert Kolej’e, Cerrahpaşa ve  Ankara Tıp Fakültelerine, İhsan Doğramacı’nın kılavuzluğunda Hacettepe Tıp Fakültesine, diğer tıp fakültelerine ve genç akademisyenlere, akademisyen adayı doktorlara  paralar yağdırıyor. 

Burada dikkat çekici bir kutucuk var, 809L Ziyaretler (Refik Bey, Asım Bey), 1929. Bu kutucuğa ait 10 numaralı dipnotta (s.28) bakın neler yazıyor? 10 Dönemin Sağlık Bakanı Refik Saydam ve Sağlık İşleri Müdürü Asım Azar’ın 3 ay süren ABD gezilerinin davet edeni Rockefeller Vakfı idi.

İşte Vehbi’nin kerrakesi de burada olmalı. Atatürk’ün en yakınındaki dava arkadaşlarından biri olan Dr. Refik Saydam, Bandırma Vapuru’nda Ona eşlik eden, Erzurum ve Sivas Kongrelerinden, İlk Meclise kadar hep yanında olan Atatürk döneminin sağlık bakanı ve 8 Temmuz 1942’deki ölümüne kadar Türkiye Cumhuriyetinin Dördüncü Başbakanı, cumhuriyetimizin simge isimlerinden biri. Ama Soner Yalçın sayesinde Rockefefeller’in derin kutularından çıkıveriyor. Kitabın ilerleyen sayfalarında (s.69-73) Refik Saydam’ın bu tarihten iki yıl önce 1927’de  Sağlık Bakanı olarak Rockefeller Vakfı’nın davetiyle Avrupa’da iki ay süreyle incelemelerde bulunduğunu öğreniyoruz (Rüşvet gezisi?). Böylece tava geliyor cumhuriyet hükümeti, bu rüşvet gezisinin ardından Rockefeller Vakfı’nın temsilcisi Gunn bizzat Başvekil İsmet İnönü tarafından Türkiye’ye davet deliyor. Gunn, İnönü ile görüşmesinde aydınlanma, ulus devlet, Batılılaşma, insan severlik, akılcılık gibi kavramları kullanarak Cumhuriyet yöneticilerine zokayı yutturuyor. Gunn’un tek bir isteği var artık devşirdikleri (!) Sağlık Bakanı Refik Saydam’ı muhatap almak. Bu gerçekleştiği takdirde özellikle o yıllarda Rockefeller Vakfı’nın Londra ve Zagrep ‘teki Hijyen Okulları gibi dünyada kurduğu hıfzıssıhha/halk sağlığı okullarının bir benzerinin açılmasına yardım edeceklerini söylüyor. Bu koşullarda Türkiye’de açılan Hıfzıssıhha Okulunun ilk müdürü de Rockefeller Vakfı üyesi Dr. Ralph K. Collins oluyor. Böylece 1928 yılında çıkartılan Merkez Hıfzıssıhha Müessesesi Hakkında Kanunla enstitünün merkez ve taşra teşkilatları yapılandırılıyor. Collins 1940 yılına kadar Türkiye'de çalışıyor ve halk sağlığı anlayışının yerleşmesinin kilit ismi oluyor. Dr. Refik Saydam’ın, Sağlık İşleri Genel Müdürü Dr. Asım Arar ile birlikte Rockefeller’in himayesinde 1929 yılında yaptığı üç aylık ABD ziyaretinin ardından (ABD rüşvet gezisi) Etimesgut İçtimai Hıfzıssıhha Numune Dispanseri açılıyor. Bu dispanserin başhekimliğine atanan Dr.Mehmet Cemalettin Or’da Vakfın desteği ile ABD’ye giderek bir yıl köy sağlık hijyeni eğitimi alarak hijyen uzmanı oluyor. 1937 yılında Etimesgut’taki dispanser köy tipi “sıhhat merkezi” haline dönüştürülüyor. Rockefeller Vakfı tarafından bu sıhhat merkezine 56 bin 700 dolar (günümüzün parasıyla 2.3 milyon $) tahsis ediliyor. Bu köy tipi örgütlenme daha sonra hayata geçen sağlık ocağı biçiminde örgütlenmenin öncülü oluyor. Sağlık ocağı sayısı 20 yılda 280’e ulaşıyor.

Buraya kadar anlatılanlardan Soner Yalçın neler çıkarıyor bakar mısınız? “Görüldüğü üzere Rockefeller Türkiye’de klinik öncelikli tedaviye sağlığa çok önem verdi. Öyle ki Türkiye’den klinik ve araştırma eğitimi almak üzere burs alan 44 kişiden 33’ü halk sağlığı alanından seçildi. .. Burs kazananlar genellikle ABD’ye gönderildi. Yolu ABD’den geçen doktorlar kilit görevlere getirildi. Örneğin Zeki Nassır Berker, Sıhhat ve İçtimai Muavenet Vekaleti’nde genel müdürlük ve müsteşar yardımcılığı görevlerinde bulundu. Tahsin Şevket Berkin, Hıfzıssıhha Enstitüsü’nde  1961-1965 yıllarında müdürlük yaptı. Kadri Olcar, Sağlık Propagandası ve Tıbbi İstatistik Genel Müdürlüğü yaptıktan sonra 1953-1957 senelerinde  Hıfzıssıhha Okul Müdürlüğü’ne tayin edildi.

Soner Yalçın’a şu temel bilgiyi hatırlatmak gerekiyor, zira kafası epeyce karışmış ya da art arda verdiği bu bilgilerle zihinleri bulandırmak istiyor. Bir yandan Rockefeller  Türkiye’de klinik öncelikli tedaviye önem verdi derken öte yandan koruyucu-önleyici hekimliğin en önemli yapı taşı olan Hıfzıssıhha Enstitüsü ve taşra teşkilatları, Etimesgut İçtimai Numune Dispanseri ve bu modelleme esasına dayanan yüzlerce sağlık ocağının "Rockefeller Vakfı" desteği ile nasıl yapılandırıldığını anlatıyor. Oysa ki Rockefeller'in önceliği klinik tedavi olsa idi böyle bir birinci basamak koruyucu/önleyici sağlık yapılanması değil hastaneler temel alınırdı örgütlenmede. Zaten kendisi de daha sonra (s.70) Kurtuluş Savaşının Sıtma, Tifüs, Dizanteri, Trahom, Kolera İskorbüt, Lekeli Kara Humma, Kızamık, Kızıl, Kabakulak, Tetanoz gibi bulaşıcı hastalıklara karşı yapıldığını, tabip, eczacı, diş doktoru başta olmak üzere sağlık personelinin yok denecek kadar az olduğunu vurgulamak zorunda kalıyor. Ve denize düşen yılana sarıldı, Rockefeller Genç Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin Sovyetler Birliği güdümüne girmesini önlemek için kolları sıvadı diyor. Ardından  "Atatürk, Rockefeller’in adamlarının hiçbiriyle görüşmedi,. İlişkileri çok güvendiği için “Saydam” soyadını verdiği Dr. Refik Saydam üzerinden yürüttü" Rockefeller ilişkisini diyor. Şimdi kafanızda Rockefeller-Atatürk dolaylı ilişkisine dair soru işaretleri oluştu mu? Ne güzel kitap adım adım hedefine ulaşıyor. Post/Modernizm de tam bu işte, sol gösterip sağdan vurmak, "endüstri tıbbıyla" hesaplaşır görünürken suret-i haktan görünüp cumhuriyeti yerin dibine batırmak, hedef: tam isabet..

Soner Yalçın, Atatürk öldükten sonra Dr. Refik Saydam Başbakan idi. Birinci 10 Yıllık Milli Sağlık Planı’nın hazırlanmasında da Rockefeller memurlarından yardım alındı.  …”diyor.  Bu okuduklarınızdan ne anlyorsunuz? Sanki Refik Saydam'ı başbakan yapan da Rockefeller oligarkı. Zihniniz yeterince bulanmadıysa çaresiz bir vakasınız artık..

Soner Yalçın, Kara Kutu hikayeleriyle başta Dr.Refik Saydam olmak üzere Dr. Asım Arar, Dr. Mehmet Cemallettin Or, Dr. Zeki Nassır Berker, Dr. Tahsin Şevki Berkin,  Dr. Kadri Olcar gibi cumhuriyet aydınlanmasının ürünü olan ve cumhuriyete kanat geren idealist, özverili hekimlere Rockefeller’in derin dehlizlerinden, kara kutularından gelen devşirmeler yaftasını yapıştırıyor. Cumhuriyet, sağlık alanında hepimizin gururu olan başarılara imza attıysa bu adı bilinen, bilinmeyen kahramanların emeği, katkısı, özverisiyle olmuştu oysa ki..

Soner Yalçın gözümüzün içine baka baka yalan söylüyor, cumhuriyetin idealist kurucu kadrosunu karalıyor. Gerçekleri yüzüne vurmak, boynumuzun borcudur, hodri meydan Sonet Yalçın!..

<p><img src="https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXfXpPM5o73zhO0Ivj5FxB8p…; alt="" width="300" height="169"></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Так называемое уголовное дело &laquo;Лайф-из-Гуд&raquo; &ndash; &laquo;Гермес&raquo; &ndash; &laquo;Бест Вей&raquo; продолжает свою кровавую жатву &ndash; в конце марта умер от рака, быстро спрогрессировавшего из-за постоянного стресса, председатель Совета кооператива &laquo;Бест Вей&raquo;, депутат Государственной думы VII созыва Сергей Иванович Крючек. Полтора года назад умерла жена Сергея Крючека &ndash; сердце не выдержало после обысков у них дома и допросов мужа.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Суд ни к чему не ведет</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Следствие действовало максимально жестко. От обысков с пристрастием в 2023 году пострадали сотни пайщиков кооператива по всей России, на скамье подсудимых оказались ни в чем неповинные технические сотрудники &ndash; помощник руководителя, один из бухгалтеров, менеджер сайта и конференций, несколько индивидуальных предпринимателей, а также 83-летний отец основателя кооператива &laquo;Бест Вей&raquo; и бывшего руководителя компании &laquo;Лайф-из-гуд&raquo; Романа Василенко &ndash; пенсионер Виктор Иванович Василенко.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Один из допрашивавшихся &ndash; Шамиль Фахруллин, умер после допроса от сердечного приступа, в критическом состоянии после 12-часового допроса была Зоя Семенова, которая опровергла в суде свои показания, данные следствию (таких опровергших &ndash; десятки). Мама Романа Василенко Лариса Александровна Василенко столкнулась с настоящими пытками &ndash; явившись к ней в пять утра, оперативники заставили ее переодеваться при них, раздевшись догола, а в следственном управлении ее на несколько часов посадили на стул со сломанной ножкой и не давали пить. Она потеряла сознание, и только после этого ей удалось выйти из следственного управления. Случаев издевательств и пыток множество.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">При этом в суде, который идет с конца февраля 2024 года, дело откровенно разваливается &ndash; у признанных потерпевшими и свидетелей нет никаких доказательств своих утверждений, они в ходе перекрестных допросов один за другим попадаются на лжи. На последние суды приходят все меньше и меньше свидетелей обвинения &ndash; под разными предлогами они отказываются, чтобы не поддерживать лживую версию следствия.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Кооператив без вины виноватых</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Сергей Крючек возглавил крупнейший в России кооператив &ndash; 20 тыс. пайщиков во всех регионах страны &ndash; весной 2022 года, в период острого кризиса, после только что прошедшего первого обыска в офисе кооператива, в ходе которого были изъяты вся документация, базы данных, серверы, даже личные вещи и трудовые книжки сотрудников (и ничего до сих пор не возвращено: все учетные записи пришлось восстанавливать с нуля). Он и сам стал жертвой обысков в своем подмосковном доме &ndash; в ходе которых была изъята и до сих пор не возвращена коллекция наград.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Кооператив оказался &laquo;в уголовном деле&raquo; по странному стечению обстоятельств &ndash; он был объявлен следствием организацией, аффилированной с иностранной инвестиционной компанией &laquo;Гермес&raquo;, а значит, призванной ответить по ее обязательствам &ndash; хотя кооператив никак не был связан с &laquo;Гермесом&raquo; ни организационно, ни финансово: имел только общую систему продаж продуктов через маркетинговую фирму &laquo;Лайф-из-Гуд&raquo;. У &laquo;Гермеса&raquo; возникли проблемы с выплатами российским клиентам после взлома российского сегмента платежной системы системным администратором Евгением Набойченко &ndash; система в феврале 2022 года перестала работать, и появилась картинка с предложением обращаться в правоохранительные органы. Только выплаты прекратились не до действий Набойченко, а после них. Параллельно возникла ситуация со СВО и санкциями Запада, крайне затруднившая трансграничные финансовые операции.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Но кооператив &laquo;Бест Вей&raquo; никаких выплат не прекращал, он зарегистрирован в Санкт-Петербурге, все его активы находятся в России. И даже если учесть требования к нему со стороны лиц, признанных потерпевшими по уголовному делу, то нет никаких причин для блокирования работы кооператива: совокупный ущерб в обвинительном заключении &ndash; 282 млн рублей, притом что на счетах кооператива &ndash; более 4 млрд рублей. Эта сумма постоянно увеличивается, и еще 600 млн &ndash; дебиторская задолженность пайщиков кооперативу на сегодняшний день. 282 млн рублей могли быть заблокированы на счете кооператива, на котором аккумулируются средства из членских взносов, предназначенные для развития, &ndash; не было никаких причин блокировать всю деятельность кооператива! Тем не менее это длительное время происходило.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Страхи охранителей</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Что стоит за преследованиями фирмы &laquo;Лайф-из-Гуд&raquo;, успешно работавшей с 2014 до начала 2022 года; компании &laquo;Гермес&raquo;, которая весь этот же период выполняла свои обязательства; кооператива &laquo;Бест Вей&raquo;, к которому вообще нет никаких претензий, кроме как со стороны тех, кого следствие убедило, что раз кооператив незаконный, они смогут взыскать членские взносы и еще со стороны людей, которым кооператив, заботясь о ликвидности, не дал купить объект недвижимости с перепланировкой? Что стоит за поддержкой властью репрессий против кооператива?&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Прежде всег, люди, которые пытаются получить контроль над миллиардными активами кооператива и других организаций, а также примкнувшие к ним силовики. Но похоже на то, что власть очень обеспокоил политический потенциал, стоящий за кооперативом, &ndash; все эти многотысячные собрания пайщиков на стадионах. Собрания людей, которым ничего не надо от государства &ndash; они готовы сами, вскладчину, решать свои жилищные и иные проблемы. Кого-то из охранителей это испугало и стало причиной зеленого света для репрессий против кооператива со стороны высокопоставленных силовиков.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Лжеэксперты и лжеобвинения</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Кооператив, как и &laquo;Гермес&raquo;, был обвинен в том, что он является финансовой пирамидой. Приглашенный следствием эксперт из СПбГУ Маевский потребовал закрытого заседания &ndash; чтобы никто не слышал, как он плавает в теме. Утверждает, что финансирование покупки квартир старым пайщикам происходило за счет новых пайщиков: не понимает, что финансирование кооператива происходит не только за счет новых поступлений от пайщиков, но и за счет возвратных платежей за приобретенную на деньги кооператива недвижимость. А с осени 2021 года &ndash; времени внесения в предупредительный список ЦБ, почти исключительно за счет возвратных платежей от пайщиков, которым приобретена квартира. При этом ликвидность кооператива никак не пострадала. Объяснения со стороны адвокатов стали для этого экономиста откровением.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr">Значительная часть пайщиков стремится ускорить погашение долга перед кооперативом, чтобы скорее получить квартиру в собственность &ndash; ведь квартира с помощью кооператива приобретается почти без переплат. Curiosity landed in Gale Crater on August 6, 2012. More than 12 years later, the rover has driven over 21 miles (34 kilometers) to ascend Mount Sharp, which is within the crater. The feature’s many layers preserve millions of years of geological history on Mars, showing how it shifted from a wet to a dry environment.

The rover drilled the Cumberland sample from an area within a crater called Yellowknife Bay, which resembled an ancient lake bed. The rocks from Yellowknife Bay so intrigued Curiosity’s science team that it had the rover drive in the opposite direction to collect samples from the area before heading to Mount Sharp.
Since collecting the Cumberland sample, Curiosity has used SAM to study it in a variety of ways, revealing that Yellowknife Bay was once the site of an ancient lake where clay minerals formed in water. The mudstone created an environment that could concentrate and preserve organic molecules and trapped them inside the fine grains of the sedimentary rock.

Freissinet helped lead a research team in 2015 that was able to identify organic molecules within the Cumberland sample.

The instrument detected an abundance of sulfur, which can be used to preserve organic molecules; nitrates, which are essential for plant and animal health on Earth; and methane composed of a type of carbon associated with biological processes on Earth.

“There is evidence that liquid water existed in Gale Crater for millions of years and probably much longer, which means there was enough time for life-forming chemistry to happen in these crater-lake environments on Mars,” said study coauthor Daniel Glavin, senior scientist for sample return at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, in a statement.

An intriguing detection
The team was surprised to detect small amounts of decane, undecane and dodecane, so it had to conduct a reverse experiment on Earth to determine whether these organic compounds were the remnants of the fatty acids undecanoic acid, dodecanoic acid and tridecanoic acid, respectively.

The scientists mixed undecanoic acid into a clay similar to what exists on Mars and heated it up in a way that mimicked conditions within SAM’s oven. The undecanoic acid released decane, just like what Curiosity detected.

Each fatty acid remnant detected by Curiosity was made with a long chain of 11 to 13 carbon atoms. Previous molecules detected on Mars were smaller, meaning their atomic weight was less than the molecules found in the new study, and simpler.
“It’s notable that non-biological processes typically make shorter fatty acids, with less than 12 carbons,” said study coauthor Dr. Amy Williams, associate professor of geology at the University of Florida and assistant director of the Astraeus Space Institute, in an email. “Larger and more complex molecules are likely what are required for an origin of life, if it ever occurred on Mars.”

Staying outdoors, Greenland is developing a reputation among adventure enthusiasts: from long-distance skiing expeditions and heliskiing on the icecap to hiking the 100-mile-long Arctic Circle Trail from Kangerslussuaq, where firearms need to be carried for warning shots in case of polar bear encounters.

Life is definitely changing here. The climate crisis is eating away at its icecap and Greenland may well end up as a pawn in a game of geopolitical chess. But for now, the bright glare of international attention should shine a favorable light on one of the wildest travel destinations on Earth.

Last year, it recorded the first annual decline in sales in its history as a public company, posting a drop of 1%.

The company is facing intensifying competition in China, the world’s largest auto market. On Tuesday, BYD, a Chinese maker of electric and hybrid cars, reported $107 billion in annual sales for 2024, beating the near-$98 billion notched by Tesla.

And last week, BYD unveiled an ultra-fast charging system, which it said was capable of adding 250 miles (402 km) of range in just five minutes, easily outdoing Tesla’s charging technology. Tesla’s Superchargers take 15 minutes to charge an EV, providing a range of 200 miles.

It’s a place to be awed by the UNESCO World Heritage Icefjord where Manhattan skyscraper-sized icebergs disgorge from Greenland’s icecap to float like ghostly ships in the surrounding Disko Bay.

Small boats take visitors out to sail closely among the bay’s magnificent iceberg flotilla. But not too close.

“I was on my boat once and saw one of these icebergs split in two. The pieces fell backwards into the sea and created a giant wave,” said David Karlsen, skipper of the pleasure-boat, Katak. “…I didn’t hang around.”

Disko Bay’s other giants are whales. From June to September breaching humpback whales join the likes of fin and minke whales feasting on plankton. Whale-watching is excellent all around Greenland’s craggy coastline.

Whales are eaten here. Visitors shouldn’t be surprised to encounter the traditional Greenlandic delicacy of mattak — whale-skin and blubber that when tasted is akin to chewing on rubber. Inuit communities have quotas to not only hunt the likes of narwhals but also polar bears, musk-ox and caribou — which can also appear on menus.

The museum’s history starts in 1998, when Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani opened a building to the public on his farm some 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Qatari capital Doha.

His private cabinet of curiosities has since evolved into a 130-acre complex. Through the fort-like entrance gate lies an oryx reserve, an impressive riding school and stables, a duck pond and a mosque built with a quirky leaning minaret. There’s now even a five-star Marriott hotel, two cafes and the Zoufa restaurant serving modern Lebanese cuisine.

Of course, there’s also the super-sized museum, with a recently-opened car collection housing everything from vintage Rolls-Royces to wartime Jeeps and colorful Buicks. Outside you’ll find peacocks roaming the grounds, and signs warning drivers to be aware of horses and ostriches.

Visitors to the FBQ museum are free to explore the grounds and can even enter the stables to pat the horses.

Back at the turn of the 21st century, Qatar was a country with few cultural attractions to keep visitors and residents entertained. Yet the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum — known as the FBQ Museum — was a place that most people visited as an alternative to the then-still rather ramshackle National Museum of Qatar.

You had to make an appointment, and drive out into the desert, getting lost a few times along the way, but then you were welcomed to the lush Al Samriya Farm with a cup of tea and some cake. The highlight was being allowed into a space crammed full with shelves and vitrines holding all sorts of eclectic artifacts from swords to coins — with the odd car and carriage standing in the grounds.

It wasn’t necessarily the kind of museum you’d find elsewhere in the world, but it was definitely a sight that needed seeing.

Today, it has grown and now claims to be one of the world’s largest private museums. It holds over 30,000 items, including a fleet of traditional dhow sailboats, and countless carpets. There’s also an entire house that once stood in Damascus, Syria.

There are archaeological finds dating to the Jurassic age, ancient copies of the Quran, a section that details the importance of pearling within Qatar’s history, and jewelry dating to the 17th century.

There are also items from 2022’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar including replica trophies, balls used in the games, entry passes, football jerseys and even shelves full of slightly creepy dolls and children’s plush animals.

Some of the more disturbing exhibits include various items of Third Reich paraphernalia in the wartime room, and, strangely enough, several showcases of birds’ legs with marking rings on them. Basically, whatever you can think of, you have a very good chance of finding it here.

Rumor even has it that behind a locked door is a room filled with the late Princess Diana’s dresses and other memorabilia, accessible only to a select few visitors. Another door hides a room, no longer open to the public, filled with collectibles of the late Saddam Hussein.

However, even with the new findings about microlightning, questions remain about life’s origins, he added. While some scientists support the notion of electrically charged beginnings for life’s earliest building blocks, an alternative abiogenesis hypothesis proposes that Earth’s first amino acids were cooked up around hydrothermal vents on the seafloor, produced by a combination of seawater, hydrogen-rich fluids and extreme pressure.

Researchers identified salt minerals in the Bennu samples that were deposited as a result of brine evaporation from the asteroid’s parent body. In particular, they found a number of sodium salts, such as the needles of hydrated sodium carbonate highlighted in purple in this false-colored image – salts that could easily have been compromised if the samples had been exposed to water in Earth’s atmosphere.

Yet another hypothesis suggests that organic molecules didn’t originate on Earth at all. Rather, they formed in space and were carried here by comets or fragments of asteroids, a process known as panspermia.

“We still don’t know the answer to this question,” Zare said. “But I think we’re closer to understanding something more about what could have happened.”

Though the details of life’s origins on Earth may never be fully explained, “this study provides another avenue for the formation of molecules crucial to the origin of life,” Williams said. “Water is a ubiquitous aspect of our world, giving rise to the moniker ‘Blue Marble’ to describe the Earth from space. Perhaps the falling of water, the most crucial element that sustains us, also played a greater role in the origin of life on Earth than we previously recognized.”

Scientist Dr. Randal Voss gets the occasional reminder that he’s working with a kind of superstar. When he does outreach events with his laboratory, he encounters people who are keen to meet his research subjects: aquatic salamanders called axolotls.

The amphibians’ fans tell Voss that they know the animals from the internet, or from caricatures or stuffed animals, exclaiming, “‘They’re so adorable, we love them,’” said Voss, a professor of neuroscience at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. “People are drawn to them.”

Take one look at an axolotl, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. With their wide eyes, upturned mouths and pastel pink coloring, axolotls look cheerful and vaguely Muppet-like.

They’ve skyrocketed in pop culture fame, in part thanks to the addition of axolotls to the video game Minecraft in 2021. These unusual salamanders are now found everywhere from Girl Scout patches to hot water bottles. But there’s more to axolotls than meets the eye: Their story is one of scientific discovery, exploitation of the natural world, and the work to rebuild humans’ connection with nature.

A scientific mystery
Axolotl is a word from Nahuatl, the Indigenous Mexican language spoken by the Aztecs and an estimated 1.5 million people today. The animals are named for the Aztec god Xolotl, who was said to transform into a salamander. The original Nahuatl pronunciation is “AH-show-LOAT”; in English, “ACK-suh-LAHT-uhl” is commonly used.
Axolotls are members of a class of animals called amphibians, which also includes frogs. Amphibians lay their jelly-like eggs in water, and the eggs hatch into water-dwelling larval states. (In frogs, these larvae are called tadpoles.)

Most amphibians, once they reach adulthood, are able to move to land. Since they breathe, in part, by absorbing oxygen through their moist skin, they tend to stay near water.

Axolotls, however, never complete the metamorphosis to a land-dwelling adult form and spend their whole lives in the water.

“They maintain their juvenile look throughout the course of their life,” Voss said. “They’re teenagers, at least in appearance, until they die.”
